Since the election results were announced, there has been a dramatic upswing in requests for pro bono legal assistance for transgender individuals seeking to update identity documents.

Join VEBA volunteers for a day of service in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr Day to address this growing need.

CLE will be offered from 1-3 p.m. with an anticipation that 2 hours of Virginia MCLE credit will be awarded.  For attorneys participating in the clinic, the CLE is free.

The clinic will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.  We will assist clients with name change applications, petitions for gender marker changes, birth certificate corrections, DMV, passport, social security, and DD214 (military discharge records) changes, and answering related legal questions.

Light refreshments will be offered for clinic volunteers, beginning at 3 p.m.  Refreshments are courtesy of the Harry L. Carrico Center for Pro Bono & Public Service at the University of Richmond.

A note to law students: You are encouraged to attend regardless of year of study.  We strive to maintain a 1:1 attorney to law student ratio during the clinic so that we can provide the best experience for clients, law students, and attorneys. As a result, the maximum number of law student registrations we are able to honor for the clinic section will be equal to the final number of attorney registrants.  University of Richmond law students should register through the Carrico Center.
